Captain's Notes
Ahoy!
If you will pardon my cheesiness, I would like to use this week's installment of notes from the captain to introduce myself. My name is Nicole and I am taking over captain's duties for the Etsy NeedleArts Team. On Etsy I go by AniaJane, which is a mash-up of parts of my two-year-old daughter's name. She seems cool with it so far. I was born in Western New York (Go Buffalo!) and still live here with my family. It's a cool little place, even if Tom Brady doesn't like our hotels.
I've been sewing since my husband gave me a machine for Christmas three years ago, and now I like to mix it with free style hand embroidery. I love drawing designs and working them onto a piece of fabric with my needle and thread and then making something wearable or useful out of it. I enjoy learning new stitches and I am really interested in making the shapes of the stitches themselves a main feature in my design.
I've been doing this for a bit under a year and have had my shop on Etsy for only half of that time, so I still have a lot to learn, and that is why I am so excited about becoming captain of this team. We have members doing all sorts of cool things with the needle arts and I want to be inspired by and promote their great work!
I want to thank Amanda for doing a great job captain-ing us this far. I look forward to building on the hard work the leaders of this team have already done and to finding new ways to engage and grow our team.

(Antler Throw Pillow by autumnmodest)
Happy Friday fellow stitchers!
Its been a little quieter this week, which is good, I know I am finally getting around to working on embroidery again after settling into the new captain duties, dealing with our own blog and all the various parts of daily life that tens to get in the way of creative work when time crunches start to hit.
This week, Shelley of Spincushions has graciously stepped up to take on managing the team facebook page. While the account is already set up to automatically update with blog posts, Shelley plans to start updating with other items of interest, such as new items posted, treasuries and team projects. A huge "Thank You" to Shelley for taking this on for us!
Hope you all are entering into a faboulous weekend.
Now for the weekly projects links:

Captain's Post
I started to wonder if I would ever get the chance to post a message to you all today in light of blogger's issues over the past two days.
I want to start out by saying a hearty "Thank You" to Gretchen for all the hard work she did in getting the team redirected and facilitating so much new involvement from our members! Gretchen left me pretty well set up...so taking on this new role has been a breeze so far.
I also want to say "Thank you" so the members who have been so welcoming and positive about the change over in leadership and a special word to stitchnmomma for taking over our weekly treasury post!
First order of team business that Gretchen and I had briefly discussed during our passing over of duties was our social networking for the team. I think we might all like to see more going on in this area and I would like to get team thoughts and ideas on ways to make this more of a presence in our team promotion.
I am admittedly not much of a facebook person and I don't twit (gasp!)...so I am not sure if I have the expertise to man this alone.
Feel free to comment in this post with ideas or convo me personally so I can present them to the team leaders for consideration. I will also start a thread on the team page for those who don't regularly read the blog (although I hope we all do)
That's all for now...have a great weekend!
Please let us all see what you are working on and post a link to new work here!

Weekly Treasury Post
Okay team...I am woe to admit that in taking the position as the team treasury-maker for the blog I have learned that I despise making treasuries.
I know some people love it...and some are even really good at it.
Not me.
I put off making my weekly treasury...then I finally log into etsy Thursday morning...holding my breath, crossing my fingers and doing a treasury dance...hoping another team member has been gracious enough to post to the discussion board a perfectly-lovely treasury that I can use.
All so I don't have to make one.
When I was just making them because I felt like it...it was fun and you could add anyone or thing you wanted. As soon as it became something I had to do...woops. Now I despise it.
The funny thing is I also joined that "pay it forward" team where the whole point is to make...team...treasuries...every...time...someone...features...you ...in...one. I have three shops to manage folks...that's a lot of treasuries. Let's just say I don't think I will be doing that much longer either.
All of this is to say, I logged in this morning and started making a treasury for today...and I just couldn't finish it. It wasn't looking good...it had no real theme and I would have been just making one to make it. Its never going to get to the front page and I won't even want to view it, so you all likely won't either.
In case you have missed the discussion boards this week, our team mate stitchnmomma has agreed to take over this post starting next Thursday. I KNOW she will be a far better curator than I have been.
In the meantime,
here is a treasury curated by our wonderful leader...Gretchen...
Happy Thursday to you all and see you next week on Friday!

This week's theme is "We're So Hot, We're Seeing Red". I have been on a real red kick lately, maybe because its my son's favorite color? Either way, please click the photo above to see the treasury.
I hope every one is having a wonderful week...for those who work, only one more day!
See you all next week!
Cheers,
Pilous

EtsyNEAT Team Treasury "This Ain't Your Gramma's Needlework"

Good Morning EstyNEAT followers and team members. This week's treasury is up and can be found here.
The theme this week is "This Ain't Your Gramma's Needlework". We have so many talented needle artists here on the EtsyNEAT team who do unusual, "subversive" or non-typical work that I thought it was time to showcase some of their work on the blog.
I hope you enjoy!

Q. Tell us a bit about yourself and your shop.
A. Pilous Percilla is the brainchild of Amanda and James (AKA Mister and Missus Flex).
Q. What or Who inspires you?
A. Mister Flex and I are such huge inspirations to each other and it is so fun to have a combined hobby, but we are also inspired a great deal by music, film, books and of course...the vintage circus!
Q. When you're not doing things for your shop, where can we find you around the net?

Missus Flex has embroidered off and on for years...usually making ironic onesies and "subversive" wall hangings for friends.
In November of 2010 Mister Flex gifted me with another of his hand-drawn cards (typically of my favorite things...animals in people's clothes, owls in arm chairs and circus-themed images) this one featured General Tom Thumb and I immediately proclaimed that it would be a fun image to embroider! James made up a pattern and transferred it onto fabric for me and that was it. We started making lists of all the awesome people/items we would like to make into embroidered art and decided to start an etsy shop and try sharing our work.
Now, we have opened a second shop (All Night Diner)where we are planning to offer portraits of our favorite musicians, film and TV characters and other misc. images...in the hoop right now...Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks!

A. We don't have much of an internet presence yet except on etsy and our blog. We try to spend as little time as possible online when we're together...we'd rather hang out watching movies and making lists.
Q. Just for fun tell us your favorite color.
A. hmmm...favorite colors. Amanda's is blue/green...I think James' is the same and Baby Flex's is RED!
